Description

A comforting and flavorful Taco Pie that combines seasoned ground beef, refried beans, and melted cheddar cheese on a flour tortilla base, topped with fresh veggies and sour cream. Perfect for a quick and satisfying family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for seasoning)

Pie Base and Layers

  • 1 (8-inch) flour tortilla
  • ½ cup refried beans
  • ½ cup salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • ½ cup sour cream (for serving)
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the taco pie.
  2. Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with chopped onions until browned. Drain excess fat to avoid greasiness.
  3. Add Seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning mix and ¾ cup water to the skillet. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens, seasoning with salt and black pepper.
  4. Prepare the Pie Dish: Grease a 9-inch pie dish and place the flour tortilla at the bottom to serve as the crust.
  5. Add Refried Beans: Spread a layer of refried beans over the tortilla evenly.
  6. Layer Beef and Salsa: Spoon the seasoned beef mixture over the beans, then add salsa on top.
  7. Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the salsa and beef layer.
  8. Bake the Pie: Place the pie dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Cool and Add Toppings: Remove from oven and let the pie cool for 5 minutes. Then top with sour cream, diced tomatoes, black olives, and chopped green onions.
  10. Serve: Slice the taco pie and serve warm with your preferred side dishes or additional toppings for a delicious meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • For a spicier pie, add chopped jalapeños to the beef mixture or as a topping.
  • Use a gluten-free tortilla if you need a gluten-free version.
  • Letting the pie rest before slicing helps the layers set for easier serving.
  • Optional: Add a layer of black beans or corn for extra texture and flavor.
