Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- ¾ cup water
- ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for seasoning)
Pie Base and Layers
- 1 (8-inch) flour tortilla
- ½ cup refried beans
- ½ cup salsa
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Toppings
- ½ cup sour cream (for serving)
- ½ cup diced tomatoes
- ¼ cup sliced black olives
- ¼ cup chopped green onions
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the taco pie.
- Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with chopped onions until browned. Drain excess fat to avoid greasiness.
- Add Seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning mix and ¾ cup water to the skillet. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens, seasoning with salt and black pepper.
- Prepare the Pie Dish: Grease a 9-inch pie dish and place the flour tortilla at the bottom to serve as the crust.
- Add Refried Beans: Spread a layer of refried beans over the tortilla evenly.
- Layer Beef and Salsa: Spoon the seasoned beef mixture over the beans, then add salsa on top.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the salsa and beef layer.
- Bake the Pie: Place the pie dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Cool and Add Toppings: Remove from oven and let the pie cool for 5 minutes. Then top with sour cream, diced tomatoes, black olives, and chopped green onions.
- Serve: Slice the taco pie and serve warm with your preferred side dishes or additional toppings for a delicious meal.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- For a spicier pie, add chopped jalapeños to the beef mixture or as a topping.
- Use a gluten-free tortilla if you need a gluten-free version.
- Letting the pie rest before slicing helps the layers set for easier serving.
- Optional: Add a layer of black beans or corn for extra texture and flavor.
