Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Soup Base
- 1 ½ to 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) cream of chicken soup
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 4 Tablespoons butter (cut in small pieces)
- 4 ½ cups chicken broth
Noodles and Garnish
- 8 ounces dried egg noodles
- freshly chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the slow cooker: Grease a large (7 quart) slow cooker with non-stick spray to prevent sticking. Place the boneless skinless chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker evenly.
- Add soups and seasonings: Pour the two cans of cream of chicken soup evenly over the chicken breasts. Sprinkle the seasoning salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning across the top. Distribute the butter pieces on top.
- Pour chicken broth: Slowly pour 4 ½ cups of chicken broth around the chicken, ensuring it is evenly distributed without washing off the seasonings.
- Cook the chicken: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low heat for 3 to 4 hours or on high heat for 2 to 3 hours, until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Shred the chicken: Carefully remove the cooked chicken breasts and place them on a clean cutting board. Use two forks to shred the chicken finely. Be sure to keep all the cooking liquid inside the slow cooker.
- Add egg noodles: Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and pour in the dried egg noodles. Stir gently to combine noodles with the chicken and liquid.
- Cook noodles: Cover the slow cooker again and allow the noodles to cook until tender, about 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally if possible.
- Serve: Once noodles are tender, serve the chicken and noodles warm. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired for added color and flavor.
Notes
- Do not remove any liquid from the slow cooker before adding noodles to ensure noodles cook properly.
- Cooking times may vary depending on your slow cooker model and heat setting.
- For a thicker sauce, you can stir in a slurry of cornstarch and cold water towards the end of noodle cooking.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For safest handling, check chicken temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 165°F.
