Description

This flavorful steak butter is a simple yet delicious compound butter made with fresh herbs, garlic, lemon zest, and smoked paprika. Perfect for melting over grilled or pan-seared steaks to enhance their richness and add a burst of savory, aromatic flavor. This easy-to-make butter can be prepared ahead and chilled for convenient use.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Butter Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter (1 stick, softened)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 2 teaspoons fresh parsley)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced or ½ teaspoon garlic powder)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest
  • â…› teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the softened butter, chopped fresh parsley, fresh thyme leaves (or additional parsley), minced garlic (or garlic powder), lemon zest, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper into a mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to blend all the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.
  2. Shape the Butter: Spoon the butter mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap. Roll it tightly into a small log shape and twist the ends of the plastic wrap to seal. This will help form a uniform shape for easy slicing later.
  3. Chill Until Firm: Place the wrapped butter log in the refrigerator and chill until it becomes firm and hard, which usually takes a few hours. Once hardened, the butter is ready to be sliced and served atop your cooked steak.

Notes

  • You can substitute thyme leaves with extra parsley if preferred.
  • For a stronger garlic flavor, use fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder.
  • The butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for longer storage.
  • Use smoked paprika to add a subtle smoky depth – regular paprika can be used if unavailable.
  • Slice the butter into rounds and place on hot steaks to melt immediately before serving.
