Ingredients
Scale
Pop-Tart
- 1 package (2 crusts) pre-made pie crusts
- 3/4 cup seedless strawberry jam
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons water (for egg wash)
Icing
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk or water
- 2 tablespoons salted butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and set it aside.
- Prepare the First Crust: Remove the pie crusts from their packaging. Place one crust on the prepared baking sheet and gently roll it out to an 11-inch wide circle using a rolling pin.
- Spread Jam: Evenly spread the seedless strawberry jam over the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides to allow for sealing.
- Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 2 tablespoons of water. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the 1-inch border around the dough with the egg wash to help seal the edges.
- Top with Second Crust: Roll out the remaining pie crust to the same size as the first. Carefully place it over the jam-filled crust. Gently press the edges together with your fingers, then use a large fork to crimp the edges all around for a secure seal. Lightly prick the center of the pop tart with the fork to allow steam to escape. Optionally, brush the top with the remaining egg wash for a shiny finish.
- Bake the Pop Tart: Bake in the preheated oven for 16 to 18 minutes or until the crust turns light golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool while you prepare the glaze.
- Make the Icing: In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk or water, melted salted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully combined.
- Glaze and Decorate: Spoon the glaze evenly over the slightly warm cooled pop tart. Garnish with sprinkles if desired for added color and fun.
- Slice and Serve: Using a sharp, thin knife, cut the pop tart into 8 equal pieces. Serve and enjoy your giant frosted strawberry pop tart!
Notes
- For best results, use cold pre-made pie crusts to ensure flaky texture.
- Make sure to prick the top crust to allow steam to escape, preventing soggy crust or bursting.
- Feel free to substitute strawberry jam with your favorite fruit preserves.
- If you don’t have milk, water works well for the icing glaze.
- Use sprinkles sparingly as they add decorative appeal but extra sugar.
