Description

These Crispy Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups are the perfect party bite—crispy wonton wrappers filled with a creamy, cheesy jalapeno and savory beef mixture. They offer a delightful combination of textures and flavors, making them an irresistible appetizer for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Cups

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray, for greasing muffin tin

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 jalapenos, diced (seeds and membranes removed for milder heat)
  • 1/2 cup cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 12-cup standard muffin tin using cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Jalapenos: Carefully dice fresh jalapenos, removing seeds and white membranes to reduce heat for a milder flavor.
  3. Make the Filling: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, diced jalapenos, and cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Form Wonton Cups: Take a wonton wrapper and gently press it into each cup of the prepared muffin tin, shaping it into a small cup to hold the filling.
  5. Fill the Wonton Cups: Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, spoon about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of the jalapeno popper filling into each wonton cup, filling them evenly.
  6. Bake: Place the muffin tin into the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Cool and Serve: Once done baking, carefully remove the muffin tin from the oven and allow the wonton cups to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Gently lift them out and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For extra spicy jalapeno poppers, leave some seeds and membranes in the diced jalapenos.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened for easy mixing and a smooth filling texture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef if preferred.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated to maintain crispiness.
  • If you don’t have a muffin tin, mini tart pans can be a suitable alternative.
